COVID-19 Update: Our community means everything to us, and we hope you are safe and healthy. Because of the public health crisis, we are not permitted to have in-person presentations or outreach events, until further notice, but we are offering virtual presentations using Zoom!
Ending the Silence is NAMI’s groundbreaking school program designed to give students, teachers, and parents an opportunity to learn about mental illness through an informative presentation.
Our Westside Los Angeles team speaks to middle and high school students about mental illness, including warning signs, facts, and statistics, and we share how they can get help for themselves or a friend. Research has shown that NAMI’s Ending the Silence for Students program is effective in changing middle and high school students’ knowledge and attitudes toward mental health conditions, and guiding them to seek help.
In 2018, NAMI Westside Los Angeles stepped up efforts to end the silence, shame, and stigma that surrounds mental illness by bringing the Ending the Silence program into seven Westside Los Angeles schools, including New West Charter, Wildwood, and Beverly Hills High.
My son was really interested in the class they had this week with the speakers who came to talk about depression, anxiety and suicide. He thought it was fascinating and hasn’t talked so much about something that happened in school in a long, long time. It had a very big (and positive) effect on him!Wildwood School parent
