Who Qualifies to be admitted into the Program
To qualify for admittance into the program a client must be at least 18 years old, have a diagnosable mental illness that is severe and persistent, have Medi-cal insurance, and with an interest to live more independently. Prospective students are required to attend at least three orientation groups.
How to enroll in the Community Living Program
All clients showing a desire to enroll in the Community Living Program at Alcott Center are suggested to speak to the C.L.P. Coordinator to get some preliminary information about the program. If the client and their current treatment provider agree that this is a program that will help them achieve their goals, they should then contact the C.L.P. Coordinator to set up an intake appointment.
Once a client is a member of the Alcott Center, then he or she will be referred to the C.L.P. Orientation groups to get more information and show an interest in the program. Attendance of the orientation groups is a critical qualifier to being admitted into the program.
Details of the Program
The Community Living Program is a structured fourteen-week program. The schedule is four days a week, Tuesday through Friday. It averages four hours a day. It consists of twelve groups a week. The groups are Goals, Cooking, Housing and Problem Solving, Cognitive Distortions, Cleaning, Communication Skills, Symptom Management, Money Management, Women’s/Men’s support group, Social and Leisure Skills, Closed Process and two student planned outings a month. The students receive monthly evaluations to measure how successful they have been in the program. A graduation certificate and ceremony are awarded upon completion of the program.
Schedule of the When the New Program Begins
The program begins every four months. It is a three-month program with a one-month break every fourth-month. We are currently accepting referrals for the next round that will be starting on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. Orientation sessions will be every Wednesday in April at 3:00 pm at the Alcott Center.
Do you have any consumers that are living with their family, in a board and care, or are struggling managing their own apartment? The program provides an opportunity to create close supportive relationships, learn to manage symptoms, improve communication skills, learn to manage money, get out into the community, and improve cooking skills.
This intensive, 14 week training program is designed to assist consumers in building the necessary skills to live successfully on their own. Consumers who are interested in the program should attend at least three of the orientation sessions listed below:
